1930s Vintage Wedding Dress in Slinky Satin, for Real Vintage Bride Emily.

Dear Readers,
Emily is our Vintage Bride of the Week, wearing a beautiful original 1930s wedding dress in ivory satin...
Let's give Emily a moment to tell the story in her own words
"My experience with Helena helping me choose my wedding dress was wonderful from start to finish. Visiting her studio of unique and original dresses from every decade made me feel like a child in a sweet shop! We consulted by email beforehand and although I'd decided I was looking for a dress that was 1920s/30s in style I had a wonderful time exploring all the different possibilities."
"The dress I chose felt so beautiful to wear, the quality and weight of the material was like nothing modern I had tried before and when she showed me the black and white photo of the original bride wearing it in the 1930s I just fell in love with it!"

"I had some ideas for a bespoke headdress too and Helena was so helpful putting me in touch with a contact at HT Headwear which really finished off the look. I visited Helena 4 or 5 times for fittings, even to try the dress with different shoes and each time she was so patient, and welcomed me (and my mum) with a smile, tea and wonderful advice."

"I can't recommend the service enough and I felt so special in my dress on the day. Hopefully my smile in these photos says it all!"
I think Emily's right. Her words and these lovely pictures really do say it all. Such a beautiful, happy bride! I'm delighted to have been a part of her day. If you'd like to know more, or to view my range of original or vintage-inspired dresses, please do contact me

Accessories for Vintage Wedding Dresses – The Birdcage Veil.

Dear Reader,
Some time ago I promised to show you my new range. So here at last is the first of my new heavenly vintage veils...!
The first of my new range of veils for vintage wedding dresses - Heavenly Vintage Brides
My clients usually ask for advice on accessorising vintage wedding dresses, and it is hard to find subtle and delicate vintage-style accessories that suit every period. So the answer…? Well, it was under my nose! To design my own range of beautiful, high-quality veils using the same fabulous-quality authentic laces and fabrics I sourced for my dresses.

This first style is a birdcage veil - and I have kept it very simple and versatile. This darling little veil can look mysterious and glamorous with a 1930s or 1940s dress, or cute and pretty with a 1950s wedding dress.
How to wear Birdcage veil for vintage wedding dresses - Heavenly Vintage Brides
My birdcage veil can be worn at a pretty angle over one eye. Or for a subtly sexy look, can be worn across the top part of the face as shown here - slightly obscuring both eyes to give a little mystery. The size of the veil can be tiny and super-subtle, or larger and more dramatic as you wish.

I have several examples here in my studio for my clients to try out and have fun with, whilst they are trying on the dresses – they suit everyone and most girls love them!

Shown here with the Angel dress from my Heavenly Collection in fine lace and blush underslip, my Vintage Birdcage Veils are priced from £25–£50. Keep watching as I have more styles to show you very soon.

Real Vintage Bride Joanna in Fabulous 1980s Fringed Wedding Dress.

Dear Reader,
This amazing 1980s bead-fringed piece is a real showstopper. It's a beautiful dress, but I always knew it would take a special bride to wear it and truly make it her own...
The moment Joanna tried it on, she was obviously the one!
Super-stylish taxidermist Jo married web designer Aki in Bristol, in a wedding she describes as "kind of 60s mod / Dusty Springfield goes wild in Morocco".
From the Moroccan themed venue, to the seashell-clad cake, to the entertainment provided by Bristol Ukelele Club (of which Jo is a founder member), two belly dancers and a magician, the whole day was a quirky and individual success!
As Jo says,
"There is absolutely nothing I would change about our wedding. And I love my dress so much I’ve already worn it again to a party at the Lord Mayor of London's house!"
What a super-cool vintage bride! If you'd like to see more of Jo and Aki's gorgeous photos, their wedding also featured in RocknRollBride.

Vintage-Style Wedding Dress by Alexander McQueen – our Friday Inspiration.

Dear Reader,
The V&A Fashion department's spectacular Alexander McQueen show, Museum of Savage Beauty, is now in its third week and garnering rave reviews. This vintage-inspired wedding dress showcases all his couture skills and includes so many of my favourite features...
High neck...? Check. Head to toe ivory lace...? Check. Long sleeves...? Check. Absolutely beautiful...? Check check check!

The fairytale styling in this picture is amazing, but the dress itself is remarkably beautiful and wearable. (Ok, it probably costs about a million pounds too!) The exhibition continues until 2 August.

Enjoy the long Easter weekend!

Clare in 1960s-style lace wedding dress – our Vintage Bride of the Week.

Dear Reader,
Meet Clare – in 1960s-inspired lace wedding dress 'Stella'…
Real bride Clare on path outside wedding
For her wedding to Ed, Clare teamed the all-lace Stella dress with a gorgeous 60s-style updo and fabulous super-high heels for a chic and slinky look. (Look close further down the post and you'll see she cleverly has a pair of flats on standby for dancing in!)

Clare talks about her experience of choosing the perfect vintage wedding dress…
"I found Helena on a last minute hunt for a dress after another option fell through. It was the most welcoming and relaxed experience.
I shopped around a bit and didn't find anywhere else that offered such an individual and special approach.
All Helena's dresses are beautiful and as well as finding the right dress for me I had a brilliant time trying on a selection – some vintage and other originals all made or altered by Helena. They're all unique and alterations are offered by another lovely lady called Grace who Helena works with. (I've already recommended them to many friends!)
I loved wearing this dress on a day that I enjoyed more then I could possibly have imagined."

"I have never been a girl that has dreamt of the perfect wedding day or much of weddings at all to be honest but I absolutely loved it. I knew we'd have a lovely day but I had completely underestimated how very special it would be and as a memory always will be.
To have all the people you love with you to celebrate your future together is like nothing else. A day full of smiles, warmth, tears and much much love, topped off with dancing into the early hours."

Real Vintage Bride of the Week: Amy in 1930s satin wedding dress.

Dear Reader,
There's a lovely story behind this beautiful 1930s wedding dress...
Amy chose the dress way back in 2011, for her wedding to Andy. But as John Lennon would say, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.
Shortly after choosing the dress, Amy had the fantastic news that she was pregnant – and wedding plans no longer seemed top of the to-do list!
I was delighted to receive these photos a few months ago. At the end of last year - three years and one little boy later than originally planned - Amy finally got to wear her stunning dress. And, boy, she looks every bit as fabulous as ever.
A beautiful bride, a beautiful boy, and a day worth waiting for…
Congratulations Amy and Adam!
